Mochaware Necklaces

Quote of the Day: I make such a good statistic, someone should study me now. Ani DiFranco, Song: Fire Door, 1997

I'm going to load up the kiln tonight, and figure out how to get a video uploaded.

These are some necklaces I made that came out of the last firing. I made them with my Mochaware design and Marbling technique, with a nice leather cord and locking metal clasp. I'm not sure about them yet, so I haven't priced them.

Hey, Just checking in. Looks like you've been super busy. The marbling is pretty wild. Can't wait to see what those look like fired.
What about all that snow! Wow. It was 70 here today and very springlike. I listen to The Current 89.3 out of Minneapolis and so I get to hear the weather there. It's kinda weird, being in one place and hearing the weather forecast somewhere else.
So I'll up at Robert Briscoe's Pottery in May working at the St. Croix Potter's Tour. Have you ever been around to that? Should be a blast.
Well take care. I'll check in often. Ron

Hi Ron,

The marbling is fun, and a change of gears from the Mochaware. Takes a lot of control in getting the specific gravity of the slips just right or they don't interchange that well. Like to have a few things going on simultaneously so I don't get so concentrated on one thing that I'm completely obsessed with it, and if something doesn't turn out, then I'm not immediately tossing it in the slop bucket! Or against a wall.

I haven't been to the St. Croix Potter's Tour. I've actually contacted some of the host potters about participating since it's so close to home and my work varies vastly to theirs in comparison so it would be a great offering to the visitors - plus I'd like to build some further friendships with potters up here, but the most I've got back is "your work is too young, and we only accept experienced artists." Fairly disappointed as most have just not replied. I don't let it get me down though (it's like anything, results may vary), I just see it as I'm forging my own way up here - support from the "experienced" artists would be welcomed, but I'm not counting on it. Maybe I'll grow a beard or something.

The Current is fun to listen to; Mary Lucia and Mark Wheat offer up great conversation, and the music varies. Didn't like the South by Southwest coverage so much a few weeks ago, but I know many did.

You are welcome to stop by my studio if you happen to be in the Twin Cities. Let me know, and I'll give you directions.
